Swimming Bay of Plenty in conjunction with our Coaches and Clubs are thrilled to be able to present to you the 2022 Junior Series.
We are incredibly grateful to our Coaches for bringing this all together and are excited for the series. Our calendar in the past has been cluttered with no real progressions from one meet to the next for our Juniors.
We want to attract young people into swimming and hope this format will provide some structure while providing junior swimmers with local racing opportunities while encouraging more experienced swimmers to try new events in the buildup to the Aquaknights Junior Festival in November 2022.
The Junior Series is for all swimmers aged 12 and under as of 25th September 2022 who are registered in the SNZ Database (LTS, Recreational, Club and Competitive)
There are two pods Southern and Northern, and Clubs have been placed into a pod. You can only compete in in the Pod allocated to your Club – THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS. Each pod has three rounds and is hosted by a Club.
Southern Pod: Rotorua, Taupo, Whakatane, Te Arawa and Kawerau
Sept 25th Hosted by Whakatane Swim Club at the Whakatane Aquatic Centre
October 30th Hosted by Swim Rotorua at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre
November 26th Hosted by Taupo Swim Club at AC Baths
Northern Pod: LVW, Evolution, Mt Maunganui, Papamoa.
Sept 25th Hosted by Liz Van Welie Aquatics at the Greerton Aquatic Centre
October 30th Hosted by Mt Maunganui Swim Club at Baywave
November 26th Hosted by Papamoa Swim Club at Papamoa School Pool.
Flyers are below for all the Junior Series. Each series will have age groups with a points system in place. The series winners, per pod, will be crowned at the BOP Junior Series Final December 11th at Baywave (hosted by Swimming BOP). This finale will bring both pods together. Each meet has designated events that swimmers can score off; the events change from meet to meet and each age group has a different number of races to target.
Swimmers not wanting to take part in the series are still most welcome to enter in whichever meets within their pod, they are able.
We are aware that our sport has a high participation cost in both terms of time and money so therefore:
To keep young swimmers in our sport, we need to be providing an environment that encourages them and keeps the level of competition and pressure appropriate for their age. SNZ have recently introduced an inclusive swimwear policy and we encourage and request that swimmers to not wear racing suits at this series. Ultimately it is your decision but please bear in mind there is no documented evidence that supports performance benefits of racing suits for 12 and under.
